INDULT MASS NEWS
Norristown

The Tridentine Mass has been celebrated every Sunday at St. Francis of Assisi Church since July 7, 1996. The St. Anthony of Padua Chapter, International Ecclesia Dei Association has been centered on that Mass, since there is a meeting room available after that Mass every week, downstairs under the church.

Meetings are no longer regularly scheduled. There are occasional formal meetings, every few months, as there is an opportunity for an informal gathering every week.

Meeting

There was a formal meeting of the St. Anthony of Padua Chapter, IEDA, on March 9, attended by about 25 people. The main topic for discussion was how to advertise the Mass in Norristown further.

Through Dr. Szymanski’s efforts, the Latin Mass (both here and at Our Lady of Consolation in Philadelphia) are advertised each week on the Sunday afternoon Polish radio show on WTEL (860 AM).

UPDATE ON FUTURE PLANS FROM FALL 96:

1. We now have Cassocks for the men serving the Mass in Norristown!

2. Unable to find a Gregorian Chant choir, the people attending the Mass are forming their own choir.

3. Refreshments are served after Mass each week: cookies, donuts, whatever else people bring each week, and soda (coffee & tea are also available in the cooler months).

Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Norristown

EVENTS NEWS:

On February 9, Dr. Thomas Droleskey gave a talk on “Establishing the Reign of Christ the King”. The talk was held in the School Hall at St. Francis of Assisi School immediately following the 1:15 Latin Mass, attended by approximately 90 people.

On June 29, Dr. Droleskey will be giving his next talk, on “The Contemporary Masks of Marx” (which will explore the changing philosophy of education from the Middle Ages to the present). That talk will also be in the school hall.

On September 7, 1997 (after the Latin Mass), Father George W. Rutler will be here to speak for the St. Anthony of Padua Chapter. Father Rutler is the acclaimed author of 12 books, chaplain, retreat master, featured on Mother Angelica's EWTN. “Father George Rutler, perhaps the most eloquent Catholic preacher in America... a blend of scholar, historian, philosopher, theologian, traveler and humorist, he makes you sit up and take notice.” — New York Times

After the 1:15 Mass

After the 1:15 Mass in Norristown, people get together in the Parish Meeting Room for refreshments and socializing, followed by singing practice. The meeting room is down the stairs next to the sacristy. People are also invited to bring in snacks (cookies, cakes, donuts, whatever) to share. People can bring soda and come downstairs and put it in the refrigerator before Mass. It is also a good idea for people to come downstairs after the Mass because there are often announcements and decisions made even when it’s not a formal meeting.

After about a half hour of eating and talking, chant practice starts. The chants being learned now are the chants for Mass VIII. They are all found in the red missals which are available for borrowing at the Mass each Sunday.
Bruno Borde from France usually leads the singing. Anyone who wants to join in is welcome to join in the singing, but it’s best when people are able to come to the Mass and practice regularly. We hope to have the chance to sing the chants at Mass sometime soon.
