St. Anthony of Padua chapter of International Ecclesia Dei Association is
an organization of Catholics loyal to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic
church whose purpose is the promotion of the Traditional Latin Mass in
accordance with the will of Pope John Paul II.

Our activities are built on putting into action the Spiritual Works of
Mercy while offering a "visible bond to those Catholic within the Church"
who are attached to "previous disciplinary and liturgical forms of the
Latin tradition" (Ecclesia Dei n.5c).

Our chapter meets on the 1st Sunday of the month in Wayne, PA. The meeting
is followed by a pot-luck dinner and social.

Anyone interested in attending or in any of our other activities,
call (610) 644-8319.

The Church is far from desiring to keep the people in ignorance of the
meaning of her religious services; the decrees of the Council of Trent (22,8)
strictly enjoin upon priests to explain frequently the mysteries and
ceremonies of the Mass to the children in schools, and to adults from the
pulpit. But as a matter of fact, it is by no means necessary for the people
to understand every detail of the ceremonial of the Mass.

"If," says St. Augustine, "there are some present who do not understand
what is being said or sung, they know at least that all is said and sung to
the glory of God, and that is sufficient for them to join in it devoutly."

Moreover, experience teaches that the fact of the prayers being in Latin
does not at all hamper or interfere with the devotion of the Faithful, or
lead them to absent themselves from the services of the Church. Besides, the
sermons are always delivered in the vernacular; it is often used at the
opening services and to some extent in the administration of the sacraments.

COMMENTARY by JVK

The Will of Christ is that all may be one in His Church under the Holy
Father, the Vicar of Christ on earth. When the Pope speaks in either his
extraordinary or in his ordinary teaching authority, it is Christ teaching.

Are the teachings of the Popes being carried out? -- or at least being
taught to the faithful? Let's take some important areas of concern:

EDUCATION: Read what is the teaching of the Church and compare that with
what is taking place in our schools (elementary, secondary, colleges,
universities). You won't recognize these places as being "Catholic."

SOCIAL TEACHINGS: Read the social teachings of the Popes, beginning with
Leo XIII and continuing to the present Pope. You will see how we have been
conditioned to accept almost anything but the Reign of Christ the King. You
will learn how we as Catholics do have a blueprint as to how to bring about
a just and peaceful society. Where are the voices of our bishops in teaching
their flocks how to live out the true Apostolate of the Laity?

LITURGY: Attend a Latin Novus Ordo Mass as promulgated by Pope Paul VI and
compare that with the innovations and mistranslations that you see in your
parish churches.

    Or what about .....

Does your parish priest sometimes or always, while offering Mass, insert
his own words or leave out or change the words in the Missal? This is
forbidden! "No person, even if he be a priest, may add, remove or change
anything in the Liturgy on his own authority." (Second Vatican Council,
Constitution of the Sacred Liturgy, nos. 22,3)

Has "the bow" replaced genuflection in your parish? The Church says that
"The venerable practice of genuflecting before the Blessed Sacrament, whether
enclosed in the tabernacle or publicly exposed, as a sign of adoration, is to
be maintained." (Rituale Romanum, De Sacra Communione et de Cultu Mysterii
Eucharistici Extra Missam, no. 84)

Do you ever witness the parish priest leaving the Altar to handshake and/or
hug and kiss during the Sign of Peace? According to the General Instruction
of the Roman Missal "the priest may give the sign of peace to the ministers,"
(no. 112) but it specifies that he is supposed to be at the altar after
receiving the gifts (no. 102) until he distributes Holy Communion (no. 117).
Additional Instruction by the N.C.C.B. states: "...It is not a peace that
moves out from the altar, a clericalized peace, but a community peace
exchanged among those in whose midst is the Real Presence of Christ the Lord.
The clergy and the members of the congregation are to give the sign of peace
"where they are standing. There is no moving around and no disturbance; each
offers the sign of peace with the person nearest to him or her."

What about "Eucharistic minister" or "lay minister of the Eucharist?" There
is NO SUCH THING in the Church's directives! The Church does allow
"Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist," but with carefully laid-out
restrictions. Does your parish use "extraordinary" ministers ONLY when:
"there is no priest, deacon or acolyte; when the priest is impeded by illness
or advanced age; or when the number of the faithful going to Communion is so
large as to make the celebration of Mass _excessively_ long" (Inaestimabile
Donum)?

"As the term clearly indicates, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist
should _only_ be used when the ordinary ministers (priests or deacons) are
not available. This would pertain not only to Mass, but also Communion calls
to the sick in their private homes or hospitals." (RELIGIOUS LIFE, Jan. 1992,
quoting Sacred Congregation for the Discipline of the Sacraments)

I could go on and on with these instances of abuse; however, let me quote
from an address by Pope Paul VI on May 24, 1976.

"..... sharing with you the feelings of our inmost being. They are feelings
of gratitude and joy, on the one hand, but also of anxiety and sorrow on the
other.
"The first feeling springs from that innate optimism - based upon the
indefectible promises of Christ (cf. Mt. 28:20; Jn. 16:33) and upon the
noting of phenomena ever new and consoling - which habitually fills our
heart:.....
"But there are also reasons to sorrow which we certainly do not wish either
to conceal or minimize...
"On the one hand... Discredit is cast upon the authority of the Church in
the name of tradition, to which respect is professed only materially and
verbally. The faithful are drawn away from the bonds of obedience to the See
of Peter and to their rightful bishops; today's authority is rejected in the
name of yesterday's.... It is so painful to take note of this; but how can we
not see in such an attitude - whatever may be these people's intentions - the
placing of themselves outside obedience and communion with the Successor of
Peter and therefor outside the Church?
"For this, unfortunately, is the logical consequence, when, that is, it is
held as preferable to disobey with the pretext of preserving one's faith
intact, and of working in one's way for the preservation of the Catholic
Church, while at the same time refusing to give her effective obedience....
such as attitude sets itself up as a judge of that Divine will which placed
Peter and his lawful successors at the head of the Church to confirm the
brethren in the faith, and to feed the universal flock (cf. Lk. 22:32; Jn.
21:1), and which established him as the guarantor and custodian of the
Deposit of Faith....
"..... On the other hand, in a different direction as far as the
ideological position is concerned, but equally a cause of deep sorrow, there
are those who, mistakenly believing that they are continuing along the lines
of the Council, have put themselves in a position of preconceived and
sometimes irreducible criticism of the Church and her institutions.
"Therefore, with equal firmness we must say that we do not accept the
attitude of:
those who believe themselves authorized to create their own liturgy... or who
illegitimately practice intercommunion;
those who minimize the doctrinal teaching in catechetics or distort it....
following trends which profoundly obscure the Christian message...
those who pretend to ignore the living tradition of the Church, from the
Fathers to the teachings of the Magisterium, and reinterpret the doctrine of
the Church, and the Gospel itself, spiritual realities, the Divinity of
Christ, His Resurrection or the Eucharist, depriving these practically of
their content and thus creating a new gnosis.... This is all the more
dangerous when it is done by those who have the very high and delicate
mission of teaching Catholic theology;
those who reduce the specific function of the priestly ministry;
those who daily transgress the laws of the Church, or the ethical exigencies
demanded by them;
those who interpret theological life as the organization of a society here
below, reducing it indeed to a political action, and adopting for this
purpose a spirit, methods, and practices contrary to the Gospel... and
substitute for it an absolutely antithetical doctrinal position.....
"Such Christians... cannot by doing this appeal to the Second Vatican
Council, because its interpretation and its application do not lend
themselves to abuses of this sort. Nor can they appeal to the exigencies of
the apostolate to bring closer those who are distant or who do not believe;
the true apostolate is sent by the Church to give witness to the doctrine and
life of the Church herself. The leaven must be spread through the entire
dough, but it must remain the leaven of the Gospel. Otherwise it too becomes
corrupt together with the world....."

So, has the situation improved since 1976, or have the wounds afflicting
Holy Mother Church been deepened? Who can claim to be Catholic and yet, as a
matter of course, refuse obedience to the Holy Father?

Although the "gates of Hell" may seem to predominate, Our Lord has promised
that they will never prevail.

When Our Lord teaches us through His Vicar, we are secure in our Faith that
"He who hears you, hears Me."

The Mass with a Word-By-Word Translation
Part 1 by Rick Kephart

This gives the meanings of the Latin words in the Missal, translated below
them. Note that in Latin there are no articles (no "a", "an", or "the").

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.
In name of Father, and of Son, and of Spirit Holy. Amen.

Introibo ad altare Dei.
I will go to altar of God.

Ad Deum qui laetificat juventutem meam.
To God Who gives joy to youth my.

Judica me, Deus, et discerne causam meam de gente non sancta:
Judge me, God, and distinguish cause my from nation not holy:

ab homine iniquo, et doloso erue me.
from man unjust and deceitful, deliver me.

Quia tu es, Deus, fortitudo mea: quare me repulisti,
Because You are, God, strength my: why me you have repulsed,

et quare tristis incedo, dum affligit me inimicus?
and why sad I go, while afflicts me enemy?

Emitte lucem tuam, et veritatem tuam: ipsa me deduxerunt,
Send forth light Your, and truth Your: they me have led,

et adduxerunt in montem sanctum tuum, et in tabernacula tua.
and they brought to mountain holy Your, and to tabernacle Your.

Et introibo ad altare Dei.
And I will go to altar of God.

Ad Deum qui laetificat juventutem meam.
To God Who gives joy to youth my.
                                                            More to follow...

DID POPE PAUL VI HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO CHANGE THE MASS?

Just how much authority does the Pope have? If a Pope orders something which
appears harmful to the Church, may Catholics disobey him?

CANON from Vatican Council I:

"And so, if anyone says that the Roman Pontiff has only the office of
inspection or direction, but not the full and supreme power of jurisdiction
over the whole Church, not only in matters that pertain to faith and morals,
but also in matters that pertain to the discipline and government of the
Church throughout the whole world; or if anyone says that he has only a more
important part and not the complete fullness of this supreme power; or if
anyone says that this power is not ordinary and immediate either over each
and every church or over each and every shepherd and faithful member: let him
be anathema."

"As Fr. John Hardon said recently, Catholic home-schooling is the only way
to absolutely guarantee that children receive a Catholic education. Catholic
institutionalists, however, are as opposed to home-schooling as the Clinton
administration (which has its own ideological ax to grind). They see Catholic
home-schooling as a threat to the existence of their hallowed institutions.
But the institutions they seek to save are not hallowed; they have been
hollowed out by termites from within.
"..... Until such time as Catholic institutions are reformed, home-schooling
may be the only way to transmit the faith in all of its integrity. Our Lord
dies for individual souls, not to perpetuate institutions which are
undermining His truths."

Dedication To The Sacred Heart

Loving Jesus, Redeemer of the world, I am Yours and Yours I wish to be. To
bind myself to you even more closely I kneel before You today and offer
myself to Your Most Sacred Heart.

Praise to You, my Savior and my King.

Have mercy on all who have never known You and on all who reject You and
refuse to obey You: gentle Lord, draw them to Yourself.

Praise to You, my Savior and my King.

Reign over the faithful who have never left You, reign over those who have
squandered their inheritance, the prodigal children who now are starving:
bring them back to their Father's house.

Praise to You, my Savior and my King.

Reign over those who are misled by error or divided by discord. Hasten the
day when one in faith and truth, we shall be one flock with You, the one
Shepherd. Give to Your Church freedom and peace; aid to all nations justice
and order. Make the earth resound from pole to pole with a single cry:

Praise to You, my Savior and my King.

Praise to the Divine Heart that gained my salvation; glory and honor be His
for ever and ever. Amen.
