The map of the Vestron portal system

by Josh Good

Part 1: Map

The map is a map of an ancient portal system, a system that far predates our own civilization. These portals are everywhere, but no one knows of them, due to the fact humans can't see them. Except one. More on that later.

The map shows where the portal system connects with our spatial dimension, which allows the user to jump from one point to another. However, some portals connect to other dimensions and times.

Even if you could see the portals, you couldn't open them without the Vestron map. the map uses an ancient power source known as Kyro. Kyro opens the portals in the direct vicinity of the map.

The map, in reality, functions more like a GPS then a map. Not only does it show what the place looks like, it also tells you where you are in the system, shows where other people are, and tells you about energy fluxes, portal collapses, and other such dangers that could happen.

The map could look like anything in our dimension. It could be a watch, a computer, a card, a coin, anything. However, when it is place close to a portal, and the holder can see the portal, its guise falls apart, revealing its true form.

Its real form inside our dimension is a cylinder, roughly a foot long and four inches in diameter. The map is made of some kind of invincible materiel that always shows a moonless, cloudless, unblemished night sky. At the top of the cylinder there is the Vestron symbol for 'infinity'.

Once inside the portal sysytem, the cylinder splits open down the middle. the map is revealed between the halves. The user can then navigate the map with his or her fingers.

"But what happens to this map?" you maybe asking.

That's a different story.

Part 2: Owner

My character's name is Jay Maxwell. He lives in New york, New york. He is of averaging height for a twelve-year-old, has brown eyes, short, red hair, and he has a fair tan on his body. He is caucasian, and his ears are slightly pointed, giving him an elfish appearance. He wears glasses. Jay is also homeschoooled.

He has two younger brothers and an baby sister. His father died in a plane crash when he was young, so his mother runs two jobs. He has a friend named Kyle, who is like a brother to him. Jay has an adventerous persona, and even be a little careless sometimes. However, Kyle usually tries to keep his friend's impetuous personality under control.

Jay also loves reading long books, and the experience has given him a slightly overactive imagination. However, most kids see Jay as an odd sort of person, as he consistently says that he sees things that don't exist. like Bigfoots his mother's garden, ("I'm sure of it! he loves those plants!"), UFOs, and even, sometimes, strange markings and even portals....

Part 3: Setting

The Map of the Portals was lost to all beings eons ago, but how it happened is unknown. all that is known is that it is in the portal system. It was deep inside the portals for many years, among the endless tunnels.

Deep within the portal system, the portal tunnels are a deep, blackish hue of blue, with pinpricks of starlight illuminating the tunnels, similar to the map.

The map, however, is now near our dimension. What or who drew it here is currently unknown, but it is here and now. As of now, the map is swirling on the outer most fringes of the system. The portal system is quite labyrinthine, and is really able to be traversed only when you have the map.

The portal system reacts to what's happening in the real world/time/dimension. If you come across a stretch of gentle glowing with turf and plants creeping along the cylindrical hallways, you've probably come across a gentle time of happiness. If you come across a junction with violent geysers and rubble, there's probably an earthquake or eruption going on.

The system, if you were able to look at the entire thing, looks like a giant mass of tubes, junctions, curves, and mazes. It all slowly revolves around a sphere of glowing matter, which the Vestron called 'The Core of the Infinite'. the core controls everything in the system. If it were to be damaged, the portals would collapse. Also, the portals hold the dimensions together like the seams of your pants. If certain stitches break, its fine: you just need it to be repaired. If other seams rip, you better hope you're not in public. Its like that. If the Core of the Infinite is destroyed, the portals will collapse,a and since they're the only things between the ten dimensions and an early Armageddon, you better hope this wondrous system holds.

Part 4: Other Character

Kyle Green is Jay's best friend and constant companion. He is African-American, has short, black hair, has mischievous brown eyes, and is a little taller than average. Kyle is thirteen.

Kyle is an orphan, and lives at the Hawksville orphanage. He's had a tough life, and that has taught him to appreciate the good things even more. He often looks the bright side of things. He is also a little more believing of Jay's stories then others.

Kyle loves soccer. He plays on the school's seventh grade team, the Hawkeyes, along with Jay. He is often watching it on TV, and isn't half bad at it himself.

Lord Evura is a different matter. Old as the universe itself, and completely evil, Evura has been trapped inside been trapped inside the portals for uncountable millennia.

Evura has been in the portals so long that he now considers it his home, even though he is imprisoned inside of it. He describes it as: "An enormous, throbbing, center of energy, limitless in mystery in power. Where else could I dwell?"

Evura stands around twelve feet high, and his limbs are the size of small trees; the look strong enough to turn a sequoia into a millennium's supply of toothpicks. His face is concealed beneath the fanged skull of a fearsome beast, and his eyes are like globules of flame. His hair is long and raven-black, and he wears obsidian colored armor, harder than anything we could make today because of countless dark spells imbued into it. And even in this age of video games, guns, and trucks, he wields an enormous black sword, which he carries on his back.

Part 5: Dream: A Theological Map

Jay was fast asleep, deep in his subconscious' idle mental wandering. His sleeping mind threw together bits and pieces of information: learning about the holy relic in school that day, the reading of Treasure Island, it gave the dream the theme of a holy search.

Suddenly, Jay was in front of large double doors, ornate with gold and sacred designs. The doors then opened, beckoning him inside. Jay cautiously wandered in, and was astounded when he saw great works of art, depicting the angels of the Lord, as well as the many miracles that had occurred over the history of the earth.

Then, in the midst of all this, a portal opened. It glowed warmly, as if inviting him to step in. Jay obliged. The inside of the portal wondrous and holy. Although the place was a huge, labyrinthine structure, Jay navigated it with some kind of instinct that surprised him.

The portal opened again, and Jay stepped out. Now he was in a huge hallway, adorned with many venerated objects.

As he gazed with worshipful awe at this, a small man wearing a habit rushed by, not even noticing Jay, perhaps because Jay wasn't really there. On a whim, Jay followed.

The monk soon reached a huge steel vault. But there was a problem: there was a gaping hole in it. And stepping out of that hole was a huge man, wielding a great black sword, his face obscured with some hideous skull. He held in his hand a map, which he looked at intently. The map promptly burst into flames, and the monk gave a mournful groan.

The man then turned his head, just now acknowledging the monk. With a gesture from the enormous warrior, the monk crumpled to the ground lifeless. The warrior then drew his sword and began to destroy everything he could see. Soon the once-great hall was ruined, and many more people died.

The picture then faded, and Jay heard from the heavens: "Jay, I have given you your abilities for a reason. If you use them wrongly, then this will seem like a gift compared to what will happen next."

As Jay looked around the rubble, he spotted the map the giant had destroyed. Or, to be more specific, tried to. although the map had been charred, the map was still readable. As he picked it up, delicately looking at it, another portal opened before. Stepping inside, Jay noticed that this portal was lined with burning, ruined torches, its floor cracked and hot.

When he exited the portal he was a deep catacomb system. Jay could here voices - human voices - ahead.

"I'm telling you, Sophia, we've hit the jackpot! This hieroglyphics are like no others I've ever seen. And I have seen a lot of ancient writings."

"Well, you may be right. But what's with these recurring round symbols? They keep on appearing in these pictures-they look like gateways to other places. Here's one that has mountains in the middle of a field, and here's one that shows people coming out of this gate. And here's o- Oh, my."

"What's up?"

"This one shows thousands of evil creatures pouring out of this portal, being led by by a giant man. The people of a city seem to be trying to hide a....map from him. Odd."

"I've seen odder."

As Jay turned the bend, he saw three men and a women studying hieroglyphics. One of the men, however, was more interested in what the writings were made out of.

"Um, guys? These rocks...They aren't made out of any mineral I know of. Their very structure is alien. I'm going to take a sample to test at the lab."

The tallest of the men then turned around to get something. He spotted Jay. "Hey, kid, what are you doing here?"

Jay woke up in a cold sweat, the morning sun pouring in through the window of his room.

But he couldn't shake the feeling that the dream wasn't just a dream.
