Living Fairy Tales

by Theresa Mateer

This is not an ordinary book. It is a magic book of fairy tales. When you read the book, you can make characters pop out of it.

The book smells like an attic. It has a nice brown velvet cover. It has gold letters. It is the best looking book in the city.

My book is in Texas. It is in the part of Texas called Los Fresnos. They have a rodeo every year in February and a birthday party for Elvis every January.

Emily lives in the other part of Texas called Hereford, in the county of Deaf Smith, which is about 700 miles away from Lost Fresnos. Hereford is called the Town Without a Toothache. It is also known as the beef capital of the world. The city is named for a kind of cow.

Emily Smith

My person is a girl. Her name is Emily Smith. She lives in Texas and is seven years old. She is very, very BAD! Her favorite prank is putting pink paint over the door. When you open the door, the paint will fall on you. Emily has a horse because Emily's Mom and Dad own a horse ranch. She has a cat named Bell and a dog named shadow.

Other favorite pranks are putting thumbtacks on the door bell and she writes bad notes and sticks them to people's backs. She writes things like, "kick me." She has blue eyes and freckles, and she is skinny. She is an only child.

Zak

Zak and Emily are best friends. Zak is extremely BAD like Emily. Zak's favorite prank is taking a half of a watermelon and throwing it from three stories up on to someone's head.

Zak has blond hair and blue eyes. He is skinny and he is an only child. He is eight years old. Zak is taller than Emily and lives two minutes away from her. Zak and Emily have been friends since they were in diapers.

Dream: A book of light and dark magic

Emily went to bed and had a dream. The dream was about King Han. Emily was his best friend. The King wanted Emily over so the guards went and got her. The king tried to kill Emily because Emily ate his birthday cake. He did not kill her because he fell into one of Emily's traps. The king fell through the floor because Emily pulled a lever.

Emily went into the next room and found a book. She took it, ran home and read the book. The king got out. He wanted the book. The guards went and looked for the book, but they could not find it. The king got very mad.

King Han told the guards to check in every house. The guards found the book in Emily's house. The guards took Emily to the King. The king said, "Bring Emily to the dungeon!" then Emily woke up.
