Mary and Samantha's Adventure in the Forest

by Marissa

My story takes place in Dreamland, a quiet place. In Dreamland people ride unicorns. Dreamland is a never ending country, you cannot ever leave it.

On a cerain road called Dreamers Lane lives a certain family called the Greenwood's. In the family are Mary, Samantha, Joe, Peter, Katie, and Freddy. The parents are Carolyn and Dan. Katie is the second eldest, she is 11. She detests rodents, but she has a rabbit. Joe loves teasing. Peter loves robots. Freddy loves basketball. Mary is the eldest, she is 12, and Samantha is only 4 so she loves her doll. The story begins where Samantha and Mary are going for a walk.

Part 2

The walk Mary and Samantha are going on is really a 4 hr. hike to the river which is 10 miles through deep woods. Mary says goodbye and reassures her worried mother. Once they leave the house Peter teases that there are 100ft. dragons that are fond of little children. Mary says,"Oh Peter, can't you ever BE serious?" Finally, off they go.

In the woods Samantha complains because it is so dreadfully hot and buggy. After walking some time Mary decides to rest for 15 minutes. She helps pick some wonderful tasting raspberries. After stuffing themselves Samantha drinks some apple juice and Mary drinks some ice tea.

After their break they start toward the river again. As they go Mary happens to look at the sky, she sees some very threatening dark thunder clouds. Then a few seconds later KABOOM! The thunder came so quickly that Samantha gets frightened and throws in the air all the hiking equipment and races up a tree. Mary warns Samantha that if lighting should happen to strick that very tree, well Samantha would be a goner.

Mary gets Samantha down and decides to take sheltar some where. As Mary thinks, Samantha happens to go behind a bush to catch a tree frog. Mary turns around and all she sees is that Samantha is gone and the bush is moving...like a bear is there. Mary terrified takes a stick and hits the "bear." Then a cry, a cry like her sister comes from behind the bush. Mary realizes that she hit her poor sister on the head. After 30 minutes of telling Samantha it was a accident she tries to make her feel better and on purpose decides to make Smanatha laugh.

So, Mary pretends to trip and falls face first in 2 inches of mud. Mary looks over assuming that Samantha would see that and laugh her head off. But, it was all in vain. Samantha was catching raindrops on her tongue. Mary groans, now covered with mud. Samantha looks at her sister and screeches, thinking that Mary is a swamp monster. After calming her down they see a cave, perfect for shelter, then as the enter the cave Mary sees a huge grizzly bear coming toward it's home, the cave!

Part 3

After calming her down they see a cave, perfect for shelter, then as they enter the cave Mary sees a huge grizzly bear coming toward it's home, the cave!

Mary terrified, must think, she studied about bears in school. Time was running short! Then it hit Mary like a ton of bricks. Quickly she opened the food container threw it a the bear grabbed Samantha and yelled, "Lay down and don't move a muscle, understand?" So, she and Samantha threw themselves to the ground and lay frozen. Mary watched the bear as it gobbled up their ham sandwiches, fruit, and cereal. Then the bear looked up and saw 2 figures, which of course were Mary and Samantha. It came up and sniffed the sisters with great couriosity and then took the remaining food into the cave.

Mary then pooked Samantha, and whispered that they could crawl into the bushes that were behind the cave and from there go to the trail. So, they crawled and crawled and finally got to a safe hiding place. Samantha says, "Will the bear come and get us, or are we safe?" Mary says, "We're pretty safe but we won't be if we stay here!" So, like lightning they make a beeline for the path to safety.

Once on the path Mary says, "Now lets go to the river, I have a pocket fishing rod and we can cook some trout."

"Ok," said Samantha. So off they skip to the river.

Part 4

Mary and Samantha went down to the river hoping to catch some trout. But, there was a great disapointment, there was no trout, just some minnows, Sunfish, and Bullfish. Then Mary had an idea. She decided to catch the minnows and use them as bait to catch some trout in a nearby waterfall. So, she and Samantha caught about 20 minnows and put them in a bucket and walked to the waterfall.

At the waterfall were some small harmless bear cubs learning how to catch trout from their mother. Mary and Samantha decided to go down to the bottom of the waterfall to catch trout. As they got their bait ready Smanahta just had to walk in hte water. Mary not knowing that Samantha had gone in the water threw the line and it got caught in Samantha's hair. Samantha, screaming came up out of the water and Mary so suprised screamed to. Then Mary relized what had happened and went in the water to get her sister. After getting the hook out of Samantha's hair Mary said, "Let's go up to the top of the waterfall, the bears are probaly gone."

After 1 hour of fishing Mary decided to make a fire to cook them. She had caought 8 trout. After getting the fire ready they cooked 4 trout and ate them with satisfaction.

After eating, MAry suggested that they had better get home. So, they got ready to go home when Samantha decides that the fishes (she calls all fish fishes) may want to go swim in the water not realizing that they are dead. She throws them in the water. Mary hearing the splash looks up and sees the 4 remaining trout in the water and quickly grabs them up and yells at Samantha, "Samantha Janet Greenwood!!!! What did you have to do that for!?" Samantha speechless, says, "Well Mary, they looked so sad on the hook that I thought they wanted to be free." Mary seeing Samantha so sad quickly forgives her and says, "Let's go home, the trail is over there."

Now it was getting fairly dark out and Mary decides to run home. She and Samantha run of about 1/2 a mile when Samantha stops. Mary stops too and says, "What now?" "I have to go potty," says Samantha. Mary lets her go in hte bushes. After she is done they start off again. After 2 hours it is pitch black, and Mary says, "Look Samantha there is the house, we're almost home."

As they entered the house mother exclaimed, "Mary, it's 9:35 p.m. where have you been?!" Mary replied, "Having fun with my wonderful sister, Samantha."
