The Forbidden Mission

Thomas Junior
the Robotic Synthoid Daggersaur

by T.J. Lockhart

In the year five thousand a.d., at a time of war, the city of Materon stands tall and proud. The city is like any other in the year five thousand a.d., with tall cylinder buildings, glass paved streets, hover cars, scooters, and skateboards.

Materon is the most heavily guarded city in the country. It has a one thousand gigavolt shield that when activated can go up and around the perimeter city on demand. In addition, the buildings have machine guns that come out of the top of them when intruders enter into the city.

Thomas Sage, who is a young twenty-one year old wise man, with ice blue eyes and dark brown hair with blonde highlights in the front, was sitting in his apartment. His apartment was in the D.S.H. (Defense System Headquarters) which is a mile long on each of its four sides. His apartment is one of two hundred apartments.

Thomas Sage in a member of the police force. The police force lives in the D.S.H. The members of the police force have laser guns as their weapons, and their uniform is like a black flight suit.

In his apartment, he was monitoring the energy levels of Doctor Laser's base. Doctor Laser is the enemy of Materon and lives in the Kingdom of Darkness. He has a puny build but he has a very intelligent, sharp mind that he uses to create laser weapons. Thomas did this every so often so that he would know if Doctor Laser was up to something. All of a sudden, the energy levels of his base went so high that it went off the scale. "What on Materon?" Thomas thought to himself. Thomas quickly jumped up and sprinted out of his apartment to Jim Core, the head of the police force. Thomas ran into his apartment and exclaimed, "Doctor Laser is up to no good again, the energy levels of his lasers are way up!"

"Hmmm," Jim said aloud, "I think I may have to assemble a police squad to attack Dr. Laser full on. Now here's the plan Jim started, but was quickly cut off by Thomas who was saying,

"Sir, with all due respect, I think it would be better if you would send me and Thomas Jr."

Thomas Jr., who is Thomas Sage's pet, is a Robotic Synthoid Daggersaur. Half of him is robotic and the other side is animal. The robotic side is shiny gray, has a thruster jet pack for a foot, a laser cannon as an arm, has a movement sensor for an eye, and eats anything metal. The covering of the animal side has greenish black scales, spikes down its back, has claws on the ends of its arms and legs, and is an omnivore.

As Thomas was thinking about all this, Jim shouted, "No absolutely not! Its too dangerous, no one can do it."

"You don't know me," Thomas shouted back as he stormed out of the room.

As Thomas was thinking about all this, Jim shouted, "No, absolutely not! Its too dangerous, no one can do it."

"You don't know me!" Thomas shouted back as he stormed out of the room.

Jim then took out his portable walkie-talkie communicator and called out to all sentries and police officers and said, "Attention all officers, be on the lookout for Thomas Sage and possibly his R.S.D.. He may try to go after Doctor Laser. Anyone who sees him or knows of his whereabouts contact me immediately. Jim out."

Meanwhile, Thomas Sage was at a gear shop in a shopping duplex picking out some gear for his forbidden mission. "A wrist stun-dart launcher, that will do," he muttered to himself. Thomas also took a laser sword, an all weather condition leather coat, some light armor, an emergency rations pack, a medium wrist shield, and a light cloaking device. For Thomas Jr., he picked up heavy armor, another thruster jetpack (for there was a default in his robotic side, and it resulted in him only having one thruster jetpack) and a heavy duty cloaking device. Thomas took these things to the automated check-out. While he was paying the automated cash register he saw Jim. He knew there wasn't much time. Thomas thought, "I have three options. First, I could attack him directly- no, I can't attack my own boss. Second, I could use a stun-dart on him, but that would draw too much suspicion. Third, I could use my cloaking device and-Wait! A ventilation shaft, I could climb through that because the whole city is connected by shafts and pipes."

Thomas grabbed his gear and jumped with all his might up into the shaft as he heard Jim say to his officers on his communicator, "Men, I just saw Thomas Sage escape through the ventilation shaft in the gear shop. Disperse to all possible locations of exit. Jim out." All of a sudden, running feet could be heard echoing through the corridors. Jim smiled to himself and said, "You won't get away with this Sage."

In another part of town, Thomas Jr. heard a knock at the door followed by a demanding voice saying, "Open up, this is the police. Stay out of our way and we may consider not taking you into custody."

"Take me into custody. Why?" Thomas Jr. questioned in his strong, clear voice.

"That is for me to know and you to never find out," jeered a laughing voice. Thomas Jr. scanned Materon's police force data banks using his advanced cyber robot technology, and found out that the man behind his door was indeed the great Daniel Swiss. He was higher up in rank than Thomas and was known to always get his way. Anyone who refused what he wanted was put on trial for treason. He also found that Thomas Sage was being hunted by the police for possible insubordination. Outside the door, Daniel Swiss whispered to his men, "Bust down that door on three. One, two, thr-"

The next thing they knew, they were knocked down against the wall looking up at Thomas Jr. who was standing on the door they wanted to break down. Daniel Swiss and his men moaned in unison.

"That will teach you not to mess with me again," said Thomas Jr. resentfully as he pulled his door back up into place.

Just then, Thomas Sage jumped down into his pet's room.

"We don't have a lot of time. Jim and the rest of the police are after me. Put this gear on," he said as he tossed Thomas Jr.'s gear to him.

"What did you do this time?" Thomas Jr. sighed. Thomas Sage explained the situation as they started on their forbidden mission.

Eventually, they came to a sentry at the outskirts of Materon. Thomas Sage said to Thomas Jr., "Jr., you tackle that sentry, and I'll look out for Jim or any of his men."

"Oh, you know I'm opposed to violence even more than I hate it when you call me Jr."

"Please, just do it!"

"I'm not sure, what if he gets hurt?" questioned Thomas Jr..

"You are such a R.S.D," Thomas said playfully.

"Hey! Oh wait, I am a R.S.D," Thomas Jr. said in relief.

"Never mind, I'll do it myself."

Thomas Sage then fired a stun-dart at the sentry. The sentry fell over and hit something that made so much noise people heard it all over town.

"Hey, over here guys, I think we found them," came a distant voice.

"That must be the police squad, let's get out of here," Thomas said as he jumped on to Thomas Jr.'s high tech saddle. Thomas Jr. activated his thrusters and cloaking device that he had on. They became invisible and flew off toward Dr. Laser's base.

Thomas and Jr. entered the Kingdom of Darkness, a place of immense evil and darkness, home to the evil Doctor Laser. He lives in a colossal, black, bulky, dark castle. It is located one hundred kilometers north of Matteron. Doctor Laser has a flag hanging on the top of his castle. The flag has a red laser beam firing into the darkness. The castle is protected by an automated laser system that locks onto moving enemies and fires one of their many lasers.

Thomas Jr. said to Thomas, "Our cloaking device is out of juice."

"What! Oh no, that means the laser guns will fire at-"

"Just then, lasers went zipping and zooming right at them. Thomas Jr. tried to dodge them but a few hit his armor.

"Wait, I think I've got it!" exclaimed Thomas.

"Got what?"

"A solution to this all!"

"Well, what is it?" questioned Jr.

"Try diverting some power from your thrusters to your cloaking device. Be careful not to divert too much power or you won't have enough power for your thrusters and we'll crash."

"O.K., I'll try it. Oops, I diverted too much power. We're going down!"

"Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!" They both yelled together as they started their long and extremely fast descent.

Boom! Thomas and Jr. slammed to the ground, or what they thought was the ground.

"Remind me not to that again," Jr. said to Thomas.

"I will. Are you able to fly?"

"No, my cloaking device is broken in two, and my thrusters won't ignite."

"What do you suppose we do now?" Thomas asked.

"Yes, I think I do. I'll go back to Materon, fix my broken gear, and return while you sneak into Dr. Laser's base with your cloaking device."

"Are you sure you can make it back alright?"

"Yeah."

"Well alright, just make sure no one sees you." Jr. went off running as fast as his legs could carry him, and Thomas turned on his cloaking device and ran through the darkness to get into the evil Dr. Laser's castle.

Before long, Thomas found himself at the door to Dr. Laser's castle. He wondered, "How am I going to slip in there without being detected? Without notice, Thomas found himself falling through the ground and into Dr. Laser's evil base. "AAAAAAhhhhhh" Thomas yelled as he fell down into a laser guarded prison.

"I see you have fallen into my trap," Dr. Laser said maniacally.

"What are you up to my evil and wicked foe?" questioned Thomas.

"Wouldn't you like to know," Dr. Laser replied promptly.

"You can't keep me imprisoned for long."

"Oh, I don't intend to. My plans will be complete by the time you get out of there."

"You won't get away with this" Thomas growled.

"I think I most certainly will," Dr. Laser heckled as he walked out of the dungeon.

"How am I going to get out of here?" thought Thomas, "He has me sealed in tight. Those laser bars will dematerialize anything. Wait a minute! If those lasers can dematerialize anything, that means they can cut off the roof to this cell. The only problem is how am I going to control those lasers? I don't have any sort of reflecting device, but I do have my wrist shield. I think if I make some changes I could modify it to reflect the lasers."

Thomas then started working on the wrist shield. It took him about a half of an hour. Once he was done he exclaimed, "Yes! Finally I'm finished. Now all I have to do is put the shield in the path of the lasers." Thomas then turned on the modified shield and slid it across the floor and into the lasers. Just as the shield went under the lasers something unexpected happened. Instead of directing the lasers at the ceiling, it reflected the lasers straight back up at themselves and exploded. "Well, not what I planned, but that works," Thomas said to himself as he walked out of the cell.

"Now where to go?" he thought to himself. He then spotted a computer terminal and thought, "Maybe, just maybe, I can hack into the computer and find out where Dr. Laser is and what he is up to." Thomas walked over to the computer and tried to hack in. Before long, he exclaimed, "Yes! I did it. Now let's see what Doctor Laser is up to. Oh no, Dr. Laser is building a very powerful laser and plans to fire at Materon in about an hour.

Somehow, I need to contact Jim to tell him to get the shields up around Materon. If only I had something to contact him with. My communicator was broken when Thomas Jr. and I crashed. I wonder if Dr. Laser has some sort of communication device. He has to have something like that. Maybe I can use the computer as a communicator. Based on this newer model of computer it shouldn't take long to turn it in to a visual communicator."

Thomas unscrewed bolts, cut wires, and hit some buttons, but eventually he finished with the help of some tools he found laying around. Thomas finished and rebooted the computer's programming. He hit the switch and the machine flickered to life.

Thomas then typed in the number for the police department and saw Jim on the monitor, "Sage, where in blazes are you? My readings say you are in Dr. Laser's base. I told you not to go there."

"That's not important now. The high energy levels came from a powerful laser that Dr. Laser made, and he plans to fire it at Materon in a few minutes." Without warning, there was an alarm followed by a rumbling that shook the whole castle. "Oh no!" Thomas exclaimed, "Dr. Laser is about to fire, you have to believe me, you have to put the shields up."

"If this is some sort of trick you'll be in so much trouble I can't even begin-" Jim then saw a bright red beam coming toward Materon with brilliant speed. Thomas could see Jim take out his walkie-talkie communicator and say, "Somebody, get the shields up now." He didn't speak a second too soon, just as the shields went up the laser hit. Once the Laser hit it was like a shockwave going over the shields. "O.K., your right about the laser Sage, I owe you one. Still, see if you can turn it off," Jim said.

"Yes sir," Thomas said as he ran out of the dungeon.

At Materon, Jim meets up with the shield director in a section of the D.S.H. where the shields are controlled. He asked, "How much longer can the shields hold?"

"I'm afraid not much longer," replied the 60-year-old man as another laser beam hit.

Jim replied, "I'm going to alert the city to go to our underground safe houses. Where's the alarm system?" Jim asked.

"Right over there," the old man said as he pointed to a microphone on a control panel. Jim took the microphone, turned it on, and announced to the people, "Attention good citizens of Materon, the evil Dr. Laser is at us again, but this time with a much more powerful laser. People, you know the drill. I'm activating the underground access tunnels; you'll be safe underground." He turned to the man and asked, "What's the percentage of the shields?"

"39%, we can't take much more," the man said as he shook his head sadly. Booooom! The earth shook as another beam hit the shields. "20%." the man shouted.

"What are you doing now?" Jim asked.

"I'm rerouting power from the shields in the rear to the front. Yes, now we have 40%." Boooommmm! Another laser hit the shields with devastating affect. "Well we had 40%, now were down to 10%. We seriously can not take one more hit."

"Come on Sage," Jim said to himself, "Hurry up." Boooommmm! Another beam hit the shields and the shields flickered on, off, and then off again.

In hiding, Thomas Jr. thought to himself, "I've got to do something. I just know I can."

In the Kingdom of Darkness, Thomas Sage had followed Dr. Laser's evil cackle all the way up to one of the peaks of his castle. He knew that Materon couldn't take one more shot from the laser. When he reached the top of the peak Dr. Laser greeted him with, "So you've come to destroy my little toy. Well have a good time trying. This baby is protected by a force field that's unbreakable."

"We'll see about that!" Thomas replied promptly as he ran toward Dr. Laser with his laser sword on. Dr. Laser hit a button on a belt he was wearing and Thomas's laser sword was turned unexpectedly off.

Then, Dr. Laser cackled, "Fool! You stole that technology from me; I know its strengths and weaknesses. Mwhaaaaa!" Dr. Laser then took out one of his weapons from his belt and started shooting at Thomas. Thomas jumped, ducked, darted this way, and that way.

During all this Thomas thought, "I have to get to that control panel on the other side of the room and shut the laser down instead of trying to smash it, but first I have to find something to fire back at him with." As if a miracle had happened, Thomas had spotted one of Dr. Laser's weapons mounted on the wall. Thomas darted quickly over to it and started firing back at Doctor Laser. Unluckily, Thomas found out that Dr. Laser had a force field around himself too. The laser beams that Thomas would fire would bounce off the force field and would fire back in almost any direction.

"And you thought you would actually beat me Thomas Sage, " Dr. Laser said in triumphantness, as one of his laser beams hit Thomas's armor and sent him flying against a control panel. At that moment, Dr. Laser's giant laser beam fired at Materon.

"NOOOOOOOO!!!" Thomas yelled.

"Fool! When your precious city is destroyed the weight will be on your shoulders! Haaaaa!"

"What have I done?!" Thomas exclaimed in despair.

At Materon, Thomas Jr. saw a laser beam coming toward Materon and thought, "This is my chance to do something. I have to act now or it will be too late." Thomas Jr. flew up to where the laser was and went to meet it. The people underground watching this happen on a multiple screens gasped in amazement as the powerful and deadly beam hit Thomas Jr. and reflected back toward the wicked Dr. Laser's base. Thomas Jr. disappeared into thin air and all that was left of him was a piece of his armor.

At Dr. Laser's base, Thomas and Dr. Laser gazed in fear stricken surprise as a laser beam came straight toward them.

"We have to get out of here!" Thomas exclaimed.

"There is an escape hover car in the dungeon where you were. If we can reach that we can escape out of here," Dr. Laser said.

" Why should you help me?" Thomas inquired.

"I don't like to say it, but I don't know how to drive," Dr. Laser confessed.

" You're a brilliant mastermind and you don't know how to drive!" Thomas exclaimed in a stunned voice.

"Well I never took lessons because I dropped out of school, but that isn't the point. It seems the only way out of here is working with you," Dr. Laser said in disgust.

"Follow me," Dr. Laser yelled over his shoulder as he started to run out of the room they were in. Thomas followed Dr. Laser down to the dungeon where he had escaped. The laser beam that had reflected back at Dr. Laser's base set off a chain reaction that made explosions happen all around the castle.

"Come on Sage, we're almost to the hover car!"

"O.K. I'm coming," Thomas said while trying to catch up with Dr. Laser who was far ahead of him.

"Here we are," announced Dr. Laser who was pointing to a hover car in the dungeon where Thomas was kept. Thomas winced as the castle shook violently with constant explosions.

"Come on Sage, hop in!" Dr. Laser said in a hurrying voice as he hopped into the passenger's seat.

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Thomas responded as he jumped into the drivers seat. Vrrrrrrmmmm!! The hover car came to life and they sped down corridor after corridor. The explosions were right behind them. Dr. Laser's castle was crumbling in on itself.

"There's the exit," Thomas said in relief, as he saw the front door straight ahead of him. Booommm!! Booommmm!! Boooomm!! Explosions were happening everywhere. Bricks and stones were collapsing right behind them as they sped along in the hover car out the front door just as Dr. Laser's whole castle collapsed.

"We're alive!" shouted Doctor Laser.

"I really didn't think we'd get out of there, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to arrest you for trying to blow up Materon and just for being all around bad!" Thomas announced as he put laser cuffs around Dr. Laser's hands.

"Now to get back to Materon and see what happened!" Thomas exclaimed in anxiousness, for he did not know what had happened to Materon or Thomas Jr.. He then put Dr. Laser in the passenger's seat, and jumped into the driver's seat and sped off toward Materon. After what seemed like hours to Thomas, even though it wasn't even a half an hour, Thomas arrived at the outskirts of Materon. He sighed in relief as he saw that the city looked just fine. He couldn't wait to see Thomas Jr.; he wondered where he was. Thomas's thoughts were interrupted as he entered the metropolitan area of Materon. As he drove through the city, he didn't see any people, so he figured they were safely underground. To Thomas's surprise, Jim spotted him on a street and ran up to him, but before Jim could say a word Thomas questioned, "Where's Thomas Jr.?"

"You don't know?"

"Know what?!" Thomas exclaimed.

"Do you remember when that laser beam fired back at Dr. Laser's base?" Jim said gesturing toward Dr. Laser.

"Yes, how did that happen?" Dr. Laser inquired from the passenger's seat in the hover car.

"You! You were the cause of all this! You will be punished so severely that-"

"Can you please get on with it?!" Thomas exclaimed in frustration.

"Well, what happened was, our shields were down and the last laser beam was fired at Materon. From what I know," he paused and then spoke very gravely, "Thomas Jr. sacrificed himself by intercepting the beam, and reflected it back at Dr. Laser's base, all that is left is a piece of his armor. I'm sorry."

"No! No! It can't be!" Thomas exclaimed in despair, " It's all my fault." After a long period of time, Thomas asked, "Do you have his last piece of armor?"

"Yes," Jim replied, "It's in the D.S.H.."

"Show me," was all that Thomas was able to say.

Before long, Jim, Dr. Laser, and Thomas arrived at the D.S.H.. Dr. Laser stayed in the hover car while Thomas and Jim went into the Defense System Headquarters. Jim led the way to where the armor was kept. It was kept in a force field that could not be broken through.

Thomas didn't now what to say or do so he decided to say a prayer, "Dear God, please let Thomas Jr. come back to life. Amen." He missed Thomas Jr. and he couldn't bear to look at the piece of armor one more second. He turned around to leave, but as he did Jim said,

"Sage! Wait! What's happening?"

Thomas turned around and to his surprise saw a man, not human, cloaked in a brilliant light standing by Thomas Jr.'s last piece of armor. Thomas would've taken out his laser blaster and demanded that the man tell him who he was and what he was doing, but he was so perplexed at what was happening his body wouldn't move. The strange man waved his hand at Thomas and Jim, almost instantly they fell to the ground unconscious. When they woke up they would have forgotten everything that happened. The extraordinary man laid his hand on Thomas Jr.'s last piece of armor. His hands went right through the force field! The piece of armor started to glow with light, and started vibrating immensely.

Soon the light around the armor became so brilliant that it would have been unbearable to look at. The vibrating became stronger. From Thomas Jr.'s last piece of armor sparks and little pieces of matter were coming from it in all directions. The sparks and little pieces of matter were regenerating other pieces or armor. More and more pieces of armor were slowly flickering back to reality. At first they flickered a few times, then they grew stronger, and became real. An outline of Thomas Jr. could faintly be seen. Then all of a sudden, everything stopped, and there was an eerie calm and silence. Thomas and Jim woke up and turned around and to their amazement, where the armor used to be, stood Thomas Jr.! It was a miracle from God.

"Jr.!" Thomas shouted as he ran toward him and gave him a big hug.

Thomas Jr. joked in happiness and said, "You know I don't like it when you call me Jr."

"Oh no!" Thomas exclaimed, interrupting the happy moment, "I just remembered!"

"Remembered what?" Jim and Thomas Jr. asked in unison.

"Dr. Laser!" was all that Jim and Jr. could hear as Thomas ran out of the D.S.H.. Thomas ran to the hover car that Dr. Laser was in. "Oh no! Dr. Laser is gone! Where did he go?" Thomas thought in distress.

"What happened?" Jim and Thomas Jr. asked at once as they came running out of the D.S.H..

"Dr. Laser escaped," Thomas said sadly.

"That's o.k., we can catch him another day," Thomas Jr. said in a comforting voice.

"I'm going to open the doors to the city underground tunnels so the people can get out," Jim said as he ran into the D.S.H.. Thomas and Jr. ran after him. They followed him into his apartment. He went to a control panel on one of his walls. He pressed a few buttons and pulled a few levers. Then he took out a microphone and announced to the city, "Good citizens of our beloved city Materon, the evil Dr. Laser has been stopped from destroying our city, but unfortunately he has escaped to plot another plan. Do not worry, Thomas Jr. who gave himself up to save us, has by some miracle of God has come back to life. I am going to open the doors to the surface from the underground tunnels. That will be all."

He turned off the microphone, turned to Thomas and Thomas Jr. and said, "And for you two, expect medals for your courageousness and bravery for stopping the evil Dr. Laser before he destroyed the city! Great Job!"

Once again, the city of Materon stands tall and proud.

The End.
