House in Outer Space

by Benjamin Goldman

The animal habitat is approximately half the size of a football field and is filled with animals from different regions of space. The walls are made of thick aluminum and are covered with papers that talk about each of the animals.

The floor is made to look like different landscapes for the each variety of animals. There are floors that appear to be deserts with sand and rocks, mountains with low valleys and hills, oceans with coral reefs and clear water, and plains with grassy fields.

The ceiling is made of space-stucco and is covered with paintings of snakes, lions, bears, and space creatures. In one corner of the room, there is a steel shelf with animal food neatly arranged in alphabetical order.

In the center of the room are giant iron cages that hold animals that have never been seen by people on earth.

The house is in a space neighborhood and every house looks exactly the same. The house is close to the sun, so it is very hot. The house is in an area of space that is filled with space criminals. Outside, it is exceedingly bright. A construction company where all the space people work is in the center of the neighborhood. The space roads are always filled with cars.

Every other month, the mayor of the space town turns on a projector that makes space look like a town on earth. In the projection, there are many trees with grassy field for miles around. Holographic children swing and run around on a playground. A fake beach overlooks a clear, blue, synthesized ocean.

A skating park filled with turbo jet scooters and hover boards is the favorite hangout of all the space children. Behind the neighborhood, there is a carnival with vintage Ferris-wheels and Merry-Go-Rounds from the 20th century. A space diner in the space town square cooks every meal from earth all the way back to 3000 B.C. A nursery located in the neighborhood is overflowing with space babies. Floating pine and cedar trees surround every building. In the downtown part of space, there is a bank with a built-in arcade and a free baby food dispenser.

There is a house that is in space. It is fifteen miles long shrouded by floating palm trees. The house is made out of aluminum and it was painted bright blue. The front door slides into the floor. The floor is grimy and coated with yellow goop. There are space boots scattered across the house. The attic has bubble-shaped, clear plastic walls. The windows are portholes. The spiral stairs go up six stories high, and are covered with polar bear fur with brown stripes.

The library has spires on the ceiling. The basement is an animal habitat full of exotic animals and cages. The habitat has a tiled floor and a storage room full of medicine and food. The ceiling is an invisible electric force field. The third story is the master bedroom. The bedroom contains a mile-long closet with clothing from different planets. The room is triangle-shaped with a ceramic bed. The bathroom has three toilets that look like Jupiter.

The shower spits out a cleaning powder. A family playroom is packed with video games, wind-up toys and pinball machines. The children's room has cloud-shaped beds with mattresses that are one centimeter thick. The room has a picture of the earth with one hemisphere on each wall. The kitchen includes five sinks, an automatic food synthesizer, and a granite countertop.

The office has a desk with business papers spread on the grass floor. An indoor pool is filled with a red liquid, and has a depth of twenty feet. The pool is heated by solar-powered heating panels on the roof of the house. There is also a satellite tower on the roof so the family can watch shows on their holographic image projector.
